Ateno International Design has renovated the Wuyuanwan subway station to reflect a red gulf current in Xiamen, China.

This project is a subway renovation that combines local culture, theatricality and narrative form to break the traditional subway station mould.

"People transition through underground and surface spaces, travelling from home to work, social places and consumer spaces," said Ateno.

Therefore, the site is connected to the beginning and end of urbanites' days, serving as the optimal link between the starting point and destination.

"This link is like a theater, where stories are constantly unfolding," added Ateno.

This project has been longlisted in the infrastructure and transport project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
