35-51 Architecture Office has designed the Shafagh Tomb in Ardakan, Iran.

This project highlights the fundamental human tendency to safeguard memories of bygone eras; this inclination manifests in the construction of monuments and tombs, as seen in Iran.

"Through study, it became evident that domes, inscriptions and geometric patterns constitute pivotal elements of such architecture, owing to their recurrent presence," said 35-51.

Consequently, the design of the Shafaq Tomb sought to uphold the familiar characteristics of Iranian religious tombs while infusing a contemporary essence.

"With a longstanding tradition of religious tombs deeply rooted in our cultural consciousness, these structures adopt a recognisable form," added 35-51.

This project has been longlisted in the civic project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
