Measured Architecture has designed Shor House in Mayne Island, Canada.
Shor House grew from a desire to develop a personal family retreat and create a place where an extended family of friends and artists could convene to create.
It's comprised of a simple massing of three buildings – the main house, studio, and guest house – extending 180 feet from forest to ocean and designed with reference to a fisherman's home previously inhabited on site.
The project aimed to test an architectural firm's exploration of appropriate responses to salvage and reuse, sensitivity of construction in a natural setting and non-overt incorporation of environmental principles.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable building category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
