Contexto has developed the new TAWA Refugio hotel in Los Lagos, Chile.
Designed as a refuge, TAWA Refugio's distinctive A-frame structure opens towards the high mountains to capture natural light, while its lateral roof slopes provide protection against the heavy rains and winds that sweep through the valley and lake.
The hotel features a harmonious blend of raw and laminated timber, with exposed structures and cladding.
Conceived and built during the pandemic and brought to life by four skilled carpenters, this remarkable project is the epitome of social, economic and environmental sustainability.
Located in the remote, high-altitude landscape of southern Chile, TAWA stands as a testament to resilient and sustainable architectural practices.
This project has been longlisted in the hospitality project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
