David Chipperfield Architects Berlin has transformed and refurbished The Ned Doha in Doha, Qatar.

The transformation of the listed Ministry building into a boutique hotel recognises the historical and architectural significance of one of Doha's oldest buildings.

The adaptive reuse of this icon of Brutalism in the Middle East demonstrates a commitment to reducing the impact of construction and enriches the regional identity, making an important contribution to architectural regeneration in the Gulf area.

The existing building was refurbished and extended by an additional top floor and a 260-metre-long plinth.

This new podium creates a green oasis with lush vegetation, art installations and water basins, offering a place for people to gather and socialise.

This project has been longlisted in the hospitality project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
