Atelier Deshaus has designed the Upper Cloister in Aranya Jinshanling, China.
This project sits at the foot of the Jinshanling Great Wall, at the junction of Beijing and Chengde.
By integrating with the surrounding natural and cultural landscape, the Upper Cloister provides the local community with a place for meditation in the context of traditional Zen culture, as well as contemporary culture.
The architectural atmosphere forms a dialogue with the ancient Great Wall, with meditative space merged into the surrounding landscape.
In addition, prefabricated carbon fibre is used as the roof material, which minimally interferes with the environment during the construction process and brings a sense of traditional architecture into the project.
This project has been longlisted in the civic project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
