McCloy + Muchemwa has designed Urban Playground, an inner city playground installation.

Neither a sculpture nor a traditional playground, this project brings an element of unexpected play into the city.

"The Urban Playground is deliberately eye-catching and is laid out as a trail of breadcrumbs," said McCloy + Muchemwa.

This project brings a more playful atmosphere to the heart of the business area and engages families and city workers.

Inspired by wooden children's toys, the larger pieces have cavern-like spaces, while smaller modules are scattered around.

Each piece has a unique shape that creates opportunities for seating, open-ended play, or exploration, where materials were chosen for their multi-sensory appeal and environmental performance.

This project has been longlisted in the installation design category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
