Penadés Office has designed Wrap, a hollow wooden pipe installation.
In this project, Penadés Office has investigated new applications of wood based on a cardboard tube production system.
"Instead of designing conventional furniture pieces, we have developed a hollow wooden pipe using two sheets of 0.7-millimetre cherry veneer," said Penadés Office.
Rolled and glued against each other in opposite directions, this extremely thin layer of wood, often used as a decorative material, becomes a surprisingly resistant, low-weight and versatile tubular structure.
"Complemented with a solid foot and a 360-degree ball joint, we designed a construction system that allows both horizontal and vertical compositions," added Penadés Office.
This project has been longlisted in the installation design category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
