Line+ Studio has designed the Chaishan Island elderly care home in Zhoushan, China.

The elderly care home on Chaishan Island reimagines an old school as a nurturing sanctuary deeply embedded in humanistic care and local culture.

Inspired by the stories of this island, the design incorporates the form of fishing boats, creating a dialogue between design and memory.

"The elderly residents, accompanied by the sea, spend their whole life here," said Line+ Studio.

This project creates a harmonious and livable shared public space centred on humanitarian care for the elderly left behind.

Line+ added, "The elderly care home is a bridge connecting the elderly with the community, the project explores solutions for providing essential public elderly care services in the rural."

This project has been longlisted in the health and wellbeing project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
