Snøhetta has developed the Beijing City Library in Beijing, China.
The Beijing City Library is a landmark in Beijing's newly established sub-center.
"It boasts the world's largest climatised reading space and China's largest load-bearing glass system, leveraging innovative technology for an enhanced visitor experience and environmental responsibility," said Snøhetta.
The design invites nature in through sculpted interior landforms inspired by Beijing’s natural heritage.
A diversity of informal zones, reading areas and conference rooms position the building as a centre for learning, culture and community.
As a contemporary yet indelible place for learning and socialising, the Beijing City Library reinstates the relevance of libraries in the digital age.
This project has been shortlisted in the civic project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
