MJMA Architecture & Design has developed the Churchill Meadows Community Centre and Sports Park in Mississauga, Canada.
Located within a rapidly growing neighbourhood, this project turned a 50-acre site into richly textured parkland, with a 74,000-square-foot community centre as its focus.
The Churchill Meadows Community Centre and Sports Park are integrated with the surrounding landscape both programmatically and formally – together, the building and park comprise a vital hub for leisure, sport, and recreation.
The striking canopy that runs along the facades makes visible the building's Mass Timber structure – an array of glulam columns that provide structural and curtainwall framing.
With a simple yet dynamic form, the centre signals its purpose as a neighbourhood beacon for social gathering and healthful activity.
This project has been shortlisted in the Health and wellbeing project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
