Shortlisted for Dezeen Awards 2024 designer of the year, Fumie Shibata is a product designer and founder of Tokyo-based Design Studio S.

Shibata has worked with domestic and overseas brands on projects including electronic goods, daily goods, medical equipment and creative direction for hotels.

Accolades received include the iF Gold Award, the Design for Asia Top, Culture, and Gold Awards and Elle Deco International Design Award in the lighting category.

As well as running her studio she works as a professor at Tama Art University and is author of the book Forms within Forms.

Recent projects of her's include an armchair for Flexform and a nine hour capsule hotel.

Design Studio S has been shortlisted in the designer of the year category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
