Shortlisted for Dezeen Awards 2024 Bentley Lighthouse Award, Paco Böckelmann and Kevin Rouff are founders of Amsterdam-based Studio ThusThat.

Studio ThusThat is a design, research and material development company with a focus on waste materials and alternative making processes.

The practice combines interests in material experimentation, storytelling and making to address large scale problems and make them tangible. Böckelmann and Rouff are particularly interested in using the waste materials from large-scale human activity, with a strong focus on mining and metallurgy.

They recently completed a collection of furniture made from scrap aluminium that carries "traces of giant factory saws",  and have previously created a series of terracotta-hued cups, bowls and teapots made using bauxite residue, a waste product from the alumina industry.
