Winner: Interiors project of the year and retail interior (small) of the year. Mesura has designed the interiors of Aesop Diagonal in Barcelona, Spain.
The purpose of this project was not to reconstruct but to craft a new structure from discarded, local and limited stone from the only quarry that has ever existed in Barcelona: Montjuic.
In this way, the conventional design process was reversed.
"Instead of starting with an imagined form and materialising it, we started with materials and reimagined what they could become," said Mesura.
Judges comments: “An incredible amount of consideration has gone into turning these stone elements into a functional piece of furniture with almost no change to the aesthetic. This project tackles issues that are incredibly relevant to our time. It’s taking something that already exists, transforming it in a way that uses minimal resources and giving it an entirely new function.”
