Winner: Restaurant and bar interior of the year. Studio Gameiro has designed the Austa Restaurant in the Algarve, Portugal.

Austa is a new restaurant in the Algarve which has opened an innovative design window for Studio Gameiro within the hospitality framework.

"By re-working some of the rules [that] restaurants have in terms of logistics and daily operational frameworks between kitchen and dining room and between form and function, we were able to create something unexpected and singular in both indoors and outdoors," said Studio Gameiro.

The space, which needed to 'breathe' and be functional at all times, is peppered by bespoke furniture well thought out and specifically planned for it – which was needed to change most common perceptions.

Judges comments: “Compositionally, this interior is very well executed. There's a sophisticated balance of colour and material, and innovative storage solutions that fit well with the architecture. The approach to sustainability is also admirable, with locally sourced materials that really elevate the space.”
