Ruins Studio, located in Dumfries, Scotland, is an off-the-grid home built within the walls of a ruin.

To build within the walls of a ruin reinforces the idea that our contemporary occupation is just another layer to be added to the rich history that every site possesses. Ruins Studio uses this observation to guide every decision with a sequence of counterpoint materials and geometry: the rugged weathering stone ruins, a black EPDM pitched-roof "envelope" and a smooth white curvilinear interior "tube", which responds to light conditions.
