School: Northumbria University
Course: 3D Design BA (Hons)
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
Course dates: September 2023 to July 2026
Application deadline: 30 June 2023
3D Design is a furniture and product design course that puts three-dimensional prototyping at the heart of the design process.
Students are taught how to use the tools and techniques of workshops, computer labs and studio spaces to develop and evaluate designs by making working prototypes.
Students gain a sophisticated understanding of how to work with materials by sensitively incorporating their properties into a variety of furniture and product types.
Alongside developing this technical and aesthetic awareness, students are also challenged to think carefully about the valuable role furniture and products should play in people's lives.
The course has been running for over twenty years and has a strong track record of enabling graduates to pursue successful careers in the design industry.
Alumni have gone on to work at a diverse range of companies, including industrial design agencies, lighting brands, furniture design and manufacturing businesses, artists' studios and more.
Through a post-graduate enterprise scheme, we have also supported several graduates to establish their own successful design studios.
3D Design is a three-year full-time degree programme with the option to take a year-long industrial placement or study abroad year between the second and final year.
Applications to this course have now closed.
