School: Architectural Association School of Architecture
Course: AA Autumn Semester Venice EcoHeritage
Location: London, UK
Course dates: 9 September to 13 December 2024
Application deadline: 6 September 2024

As part of the international exchange programme of the Architectural Association School of Architecture, our Autumn Semester 2024 focuses its research on Venice, Italy.

Venice is facing critical environmental challenges that are directly related to the urban structure of the island.

Amidst flooding, subsidence and pollution, there are challenges surrounding the protection of the environment, local communities and the area's cultural heritage.

Students will explore how to preserve the character of the place while simultaneously promoting sustainable tourism and urban solutions in order to preserve natural resources and ecosystems, as well as to provide economic opportunities to the local community.

During the Autumn Semester Programme 2024, participants will explore environmental and architectural strategies, analysing tangible and intangible aspects of Venice's context.

Each student will develop a project brief addressing specific design challenges, supporting Venice's 2030 sustainable goals.
