The Groundscape Architecture Lab course at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) equips students with urban design knowledge, focusing on underground parking infrastructures.
School: Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL)
Course: Groundscape Architecture Lab: Carpark Futures
Location: online
Course dates: sessions last six weeks
Application deadline: 7 March 2023
The 2021 to 2022 edition of the Groundscape Architecture Lab focuses on the future of underground parking infrastructures and is organised with the support of Indigo Group, a world leader in parking solutions.
The course will teach students architectural strategies that can be applied to the transformation of new and existing parking infrastructures, which are at the heart of the current paradigm shift in mobility, logistics and energy.
The Groundscape Architecture Lab will provide you with the theoretical backbone necessary to understand groundscape as a strategy to solve some of the more important urban challenges of our time.
Led by Professor Dominique Perrault, the course includes guided tours of groundscape projects.
The Carpark Futures Design Studio is a unique platform where students will develop their own personal groundscape project.
Conceived as a choral exercise, you will be invited to exchange ideas with your peers and instructors, Ignacio Ferrer and Octave Perrault.
This special edition will explore what the future of underground car parks could be, as radical shifts in mobility threaten their current status as necessary urban actors.
The ultimate goal of this course is to prepare you for the Carpark Futures Competition, an international call for entries that will run parallel to this massive open online course (MOOC).
Applications to this course have now closed.
