School: Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design
Course: Industrial Design MA
Location: Halle, Germany
Course dates: 4 semesters starting in October
Application deadline: 15 May 2025
The Industrial Design course at BURG addresses a wide scope – ranging from the development of concrete products to the design of interactions and the interconnection of both. The degree programme offers a practice-oriented education with state-of-the-art workshops with the following five key areas:
Strategic product and concept development: focus on extended fields in design processes for shaping transformation and change – from product development and constructive design tasks to interaction-related design strategies in real social contexts.
Product and system design: analysis of systems and their significance in the design process. Discussion of the meaning and limits of systems in a social, technical and cultural context and design.
Narrative and sensual design: focus on the narrative, sensual and poetic design expressions. Development of awareness for the multi-layered experience, 'language of things' and their environmental qualities and atmospheres.
Designing in digital contexts: designing with digital tools. Experimentation in cultural, technological, social and economic contexts. Artistic and planning methods. Learning and testing new, contemporary design technologies.
Material/technology/sustainability: sustainable and regenerative futures require a fundamental rethink and interdisciplinary dialogue. A focus lies on the experimentation with (bio)materials, hypotheses and scenarios. Linked to the BioLab and the SustainLab of the BurgLabs.
