Landscapes are the dynamic synthesis of natural systems, sociocultural forces and the physical material of the constructed world.
The master's programme in Landscape Architecture and Urbanism prepares students to be leaders, ready to take on challenges of climate change and environmental injustice through the design and planning of landscapes across scales, including sites, towns, cities and whole regions.
The graduate programme uses the complex regional geography of south California as a laboratory for students to generate and test responses to the planet's most pressing environmental challenges, including the resounding impacts of climate change, as well as rapid urbanisation, social and environmental injustice and the interface of nature and technology.
We have a diverse curriculum in design that covers different scales, media and fabrication, urban ecology and biodiversity, performance technologies, history, theory, community and equity-based design.
The programme is home to the Los Angeles River Integrated Design Lab, the Landscape Futures Lab and the Landscape Justice Initiative, each of which offers students opportunities to apply knowledge and innovations in real-life situations.
The aim of the programme is to develop critical thinkers and design leaders who are unafraid to tackle some of the most critical environmental questions of our day.
