The Master of Science in Restoration course focuses specifically on the design intervention on cultural, territorial, building and monumental heritage, developing a crucial and highly qualifying theme of the profession – monument restoration being the only activity exclusively reserved for architects in Italy in the field of design.

The degree programme is based on the primary role attributed to the cognitive phase for the definition of design interventions – knowledge of the elements of territorial structuring, processes of formation of urban fabrics and the distinctive characteristics of architectural tradition, especially Italian.

At the same time, it provides the necessary tools and methods to design the recovery of cultural heritage qualities in the contemporary world.

The objective is to train architects with a high degree of technical and historical culture, capable of designing in harmony with urban and environmental contexts of different historical-geographical areas, especially in Italy.

The educational path of the department's master's degrees is structured into thematic semesters, characterised by highly interdisciplinary applied laboratories.

In particular, the restoration course includes a sequence that, in the first year, starts from the knowledge of the processes of formation of territorial structures and urban fabrics in the function of urban and landscape restoration choices, to address, in the second year, with the same methodology, also the themes of architectural restoration and monuments. The final semester of the degree course is dedicated to the drafting of the thesis, which can also be carried out in the degree laboratories.
