Course: Master of Science in Urban Design
Location: Rome, Italy
Course dates: 1 October 2024 to September 2026
Application deadline: TBD
The urban realm constitutes the thematic scope and the primary context at the core of the educational path of the Master of Science in Urban Design course.
The urban ensemble is understood as the balanced result of spatial, urban, functional, environmental, social and economic factors, in relation to both the environment and the pre-existing urban fabric, both modern and ancient.
The goal is to train architects who are aware and capable of participating in the processes of transformation of the contemporary city, able to synthesise the physical, economic and social dimensions, contributing to ecological sustainability even from a cross-species perspective.
The educational project is based on an understanding of the historical roots and current social, political and economic processes that underlie the evolution of the built environment.
The study topics contribute to the construction of urban transformation processes through the implementation and realisation of complex and integrated actions.
The urban design course provides a training path that leads from analytical aspects related to the reading of the existing city addressed in the first semester to those of urban design and landscape addressed in the subsequent laboratories: the first oriented towards city planning, the second focused on architectural design at the urban scale. In the second semester of the second year, attention is devoted to the critique of the urban condition and the drafting of the thesis.
