The School of the Art Institute of Chicago's (SAIC) Master of Fine Arts in Fashion, Body and Garment degree provides a unique, interdisciplinary experience that challenges students to bring an artistic and theoretical approach to their work.

Students undertake a deep individual investigation of fashion within the broader context of community, sustainability, technology and the industry. Uniquely situated within a vibrant contemporary school of art and design, this programme builds on the innumerable connections and relationships between art, design and fashion.

Through a combination of dedicated design studios, topical seminars, self-directed research, technical labs, design history and theory courses and a wide range of elective options such as performance, film, new media, writing, or sculpture, students are able to explore a breadth of possibilities, yet achieve an in-depth focus within their individual practice.

Working directly with SAIC’s internationally renowned faculty of fashion innovators, students benefit from rigorous artistic and professionally oriented training and internship opportunities as they create and exhibit their body of work.

Graduates of the programme go on to work in design studios, to create their own lines or to display their work in galleries, installations, performance or theatrical settings. Generous scholarships and financial aid are available.
