Design Academy Eindhoven

Design Academy Eindhoven comes in at number three in our schools list, largely due to the popularity of projects presented at Milan Design Week and Dutch Design Week, which is held each year in Eindhoven to coincide with the school's graduation show.

Students at the Dutch school often produce highly provocative projects. This year's crop included a petting zoo and a vagina mirror, clothing that doesn't require stitches to put together and ceramics designed to be viewed on Skype.

The school is regarded as one of the most influential in the world and, where its staff and students lead, others soon follow. Today its students are looking to solve real-world problems such as the refugee crisis, according to recently departed creative director Thomas Widdershoven.

Meanwhile, in another interview with Dezeen, Formafantasma founder and DAE teacher Andrea Trimarchi said that students at the university no longer aspire to be famous designers and instead want to work in industry.

This marks a shift from the previous era at DAE, which produced famous graduates including Studio Job, Maarten Baas, Hella Jongerius and Tord Boontje.
