Under the title, Empathy Revisited: Designs for more than one, the fifth edition of Istanbul Design Biennial will use online and in-person elements to meet the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. The event will feature participants from various countries and disciplines intervening in exhibition venues, outdoor spaces and digital platforms.
The projects on display during the biennial encourage participants to rethink practices of care and civility and to collectively build new systems and structures for reconnecting.
The biennial programme has been designed so that the works will become part of the city and will be engaging and meaningful the Istanbul's inhabitants.
Dezeen’s founder and editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs spoke to Istanbul Design Biennial curator Mariana Pestana and director Deniz Ova about the biennial during Virtual Design Festival.
