This exhibition by the interior architecture department at Rhode Island School of Design explores racism in the United States and the Jim Crow laws that legitimised it.
Don’t You Sit Down: Shades of Jim Crow, 1960– includes segments that use video, augmented reality and virtual reality to explore the subject.
The exhibition is informed by the "whites only" sit-in lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina, where four Black students, known as the Greensboro Four, sat and asked to be served. The exhibition features original lunch-counter stools from the Woolworth store where the activists sat, donated by collector Jeffrey Fletcher.
Don’t You Sit Down takes place from 4 May 2021 at 2 College St, Providence, RI 02903, United States.
