Design Trust's annual fundraising event returns in 2021, with 26 art and design lots to be auctioned online and at a gala dinner featuring sets by Hong Kong creatives.
Returning after two years due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s Design Trust Gala is based on the theme of "Winter Playscapes".
It features sets designed by three Hong Kong creatives – architect William Lim, textile designer and researcher Elaine Yan Ling Ng and conceptual artist Mak Ying Tung 2 – who worked with Design Trust co-founder and executive director Marisa Yiu.
"A playscape is a piece of land sculpted for children's play, a structure on a playground, or an alternative type of play environment," said Yiu.
"Playscapes feel like a natural environment; however, landscape architects and designers are increasingly using the term to express areas of cities that encourage more interaction and enjoyment for all ages with inter-generational collaborations."
Twenty-six lots are being auctioned at the event, as well as online, to raise money for the Design Trust, a charity that supports creative projects in Hong Kong and the surrounding region.
In addition to the auction, the Design Trust Gala 2021 will honour designer Henry Steiner, who will be presented with the Design Trust Legacy Award 2021 for his contribution to graphic design.
Dezeen is a media partner of Design Trust Gala 2021, which is sponsored by Prada.
Design Trust Gala 2021 takes place on 16 December 2021 at the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel, 180 Wong Chuk Hang Road, Wong Chuk Hang, Hong Kong.
