Central Saint Martins appoints Jeremy Till as head of college

Dezen Wire: London art and design college Central Saint Martins has appointed Jeremy Till as head of college. Till will leave his role as dean of the school of architecture at the University of Westminster to take up his new position, which includes joining the executive board of the University of the Arts London.

Central Saint Martins moved to a new campus in Kings Cross, designed by Stanton Williams, in October 2012. See photos and our story about the campus here. More

Habitat appoint Polly Dickens as creative director

Dezeen Wire: retailers Habitat have appointed Polly Dickens as their new creative director. Dickens was previously creative director at the Conran Shop and design director at Anthropologie.

Habitat was bought by Home Retail Group and closed all but three of its UK stores in June last year, as reported on Dezeen Wire. More

Gravity stool by Jólan van der Wiel wins [D3] Contest at imm cologne

Dezeen Wire: designer Jólan van der Wiel has won the €3000 first prize in the [D3] Contest for young designers at trade fair imm cologne in Germany for his Gravity Stool shaped by magnets. He showed the machine used to make the pieces at Dezeen Platform in September and you can watch it in action in our movies on Dezeen Screen.

The second prize of €2000 was awarded to Lee Sanghyeok for his Listen to Your Hands Table and the third prize of €1000 went to Marc Bell & Robin Grasby for the Apollo lamp.

Isi Metzstein (1920 - 2012)

Dezeen Wire: Scottish architect Isi Metzstein, who was awarded the Royal Scottish Academy Gold Medal for Architecture in 1975, has died at the age of 83- BBC News

Metzstein worked for Scottish firm Gillespie Kidd & Coia and also taught at the Glasgow School of Art.

Kanye West to launch design company

Dezeen Wire: rapper Kanye West has announced via his Twitter feed - @kanyewest - that he is to launch a design company named DONDA, which will be formed of creative thinkers from different industries.

The musician claims to be assembling a team that will include architects, designers and directors and has appealed for anyone interested to contact him at [email protected].
