Fab-Union Technology has designed the Touching the Ground: Meditation Chair, a chair created to support users ergonomically and in meditation.
The Meditation Chair was designed and manufactured by students from Tongji University using digital design methods in the 'AI Performance-Driven Construction' workshop, with robotic construction technology support provided by Fab-union Technology
This project explores the reuse of discarded wood and innovative design for meditation furniture through digital design and robotic construction.
The chair incorporates discarded fir branches and soft white spruce plywood, with a structure optimised using topology algorithms.
It offers ergonomic support for various meditation postures while integrating Zen-inspired design. Combining traditional woodworking with modern digital techniques, the chair promotes a low-carbon lifestyle and breathes new life into waste materials.
This project has been shortlisted in the furniture design category of Dezeen Awards China 2024.
