Hakusan Megane Shanghai
Each Design has designed the first store in mainland China for Hakusan Megane in Zhangyuan, Shanghai.
Known for its exquisite craftsmanship and unique design, Hakusan Megane is a mainstay of the Japanese eyewear industry with a long history. Therefore, it was difficult to make the new space inherit the concept of Japanese stores while maintaining its uniqueness.
The Each Design team followed the display logic accumulated over the years by the old store, using the raw iron plate with rust and scratches as the main material and creatively transforming the eyeglass temple structure into a functional joint – combined with the traditional wood mortise and tenon technique, which makes the space see innovation in the classic.
"Due to the century-old attribute of Hakusan Megane, the client hoped that we could retain the atmosphere of the brand's Japanese store or some inherent design logic," said Each Design.
"But at the same time, since this is the first store in mainland China, the overall space need[ed] a new concept and design."
This project has been shortlisted in the retail interior category of Dezeen Awards China 2024.
