Peiping Machine by Longtan Lake

Draw has designed the interiors for Peiping Machine Longtan Lake, an all-day craft beer bar in Beijing, China.

Committed to the fusion and revival of local culture, Peiping Machine is moving beyond the traditional alleyways, embedding itself in everyday life and becoming a more active participant in the broader spectrum of urban revitalisation.

The project is located in the former Beijing Amusement Park. After a period of neglect and abandonment spanning a decade, the park has now been transformed into a sports park where the site once served as a visitor's rest area and is now operating as an all-day craft beer bar.

The circular floor plan divides the foyer space with varying radii arcs, serving as walls, tables, bar counters, beer taps or outdoor platforms, enveloped by the lake view. Distinct atmospheres blend from interior to exterior while maintaining separation.

Among curved lines, the cast-in-place concrete wall divides the kitchen and foyer, becoming the focal point. Functioning as a partition, it mitigates the space's voluminous aspect, resonating with human dimensions.

The arc-shaped beer tap and customer seating are combined in the circular island counter, which lessens the traditional bars' emphasis on the beer tap, creating an inviting ambience between customers and bartenders.

This project has been shortlisted in the restaurant and bar interior category of Dezeen Awards China 2024.
