39 King's Road

Beau Architects has designed the newly built tower on 39 King's Road in the Tin Hau District, Hong Kong.

This project is a brand new 26-floor office 'pencil' tower on 39 King’s Road that started as a façade exercise and soon evolved into a full architectural design mission.

The antithesis of any iconic approach is that it "elaborates on the idea of quiet innovation" – a motto developed with facade consultant VS-A, emphasising the improvement of simple, archetypal solutions.

"As it would have been climatically criminal to implement a glass façade in Hong Kong, considering the fully exposed to east and south facades, it deploys a solid façade perforated by a hyper-repetitive pattern of small windows, purposely echoing its immediate surroundings," said Beau Architects.

The result is humble and pragmatic and blends into the dense urban fabric of the North Point area. The tower is a total area of around 2,500 square metres, proposing a commercial space at the ground floor and office spaces for all the remaining floors.

"The whole process, from the first discussions to the construction completion, lasted around 2.5 years," added Beau.

This project has been shortlisted in the workplace project category of Dezeen Awards China 2024.
