Ishium Stool
Hangzhou LingZuo Culture Creative Co has designed the Ishium School, a skeleton-inspired stool.
Chen Wei's functional sculpture is based on the concept of 'Sitting Tools - Human Exoskeleton'; the curve of the bench surface of the Ishium Stool echoes the human skeleton and fits the sitting bone on the hip bone.
"Sitting on it, the hips and the seat are coupled together like a joint structure," said Hangzhou LingZuo Culture Creative Co.
The Sitting Stool series blurs the gap between design and art and is described as a "functional work of art".
"We find that...for such products, to give it a very high aesthetic value [is] far more important than to give it a simple use of the function," added Hangzhou LingZuo Culture Creative Co.
This project has been shortlisted in the furniture design category of Dezeen Awards China 2024.
