Polycycle Illumination by Xuanhao Li is a sustainable lamp collection upcycled from plastic film waste through CNC fabrication and craftsmanship.

Polycycle Illumination pioneers integrating computational design, digital fabrication and crafts to repurpose discarded Polyethylene plastic packaging into elegant jellyfish-shaped table lamps.

Exploiting the thermoplasticity, flexibility, and translucency of disposable plastic film waste, Polycycle Illumination transforms challenging-to-process plastic waste into decorative lamps, saving them from ending up in landfills or oceans.

The bio-inspired silhouettes pay homage to the marine ecosystem and revive plastic waste with a captivating glow through the interwoven textures.

Through dual innovations in design and manufacturing, Polycycle Illumination not only demonstrates technological advancements in sustainable design but also meets consumer demands for both environmental responsibility and aesthetic appeal of lighting products.

This project has been shortlisted in the lighting design category of Dezeen Awards China 2024.
