Woven Passage to Cloudy Peaks

Line+ Studio has designed Woven Passage to Cloudy Peaks, a rural area infrastructure in Xinchang, China.

Woven Passage to Cloudy Peaks is located in Xiayanbei Village, Zhejiang Province, serving as both a gateway to the rural scenic area and a foundation infrastructure for ecological restoration.

The tunnel design conforms to the terrain's scale, integrating tiered landscape retaining walls to connect and fill the original slopes. Using natural, sustainable materials, the structure harmonizes with its surroundings.

The exterior is clad in locally sourced black slate, blending seamlessly with the tea fields and woodlands, while the timber interior integrates structural and decorative elements. The woven timber design draws from local craftsmanship, preserving and evolving cultural heritage.

This project exemplifies sustainable construction through the use of natural materials and a design that respects and enhances the natural topography.

This project has been shortlisted in the landscape and urban project category of Dezeen Awards China 2024.
