Winner: Emerging designer of the year 2024. Shanghai-based design studio MMR Studio.

MMR Studio was founded by Zhongyu Zhang in 2021 in Shanghai. MMR wishes to explore the cultural traces of the process of urban transformation, and incorporate into the materials the textures and emotions that flow through the commonplace, and to perpetuate the language of craftsmanship.

Recent projects include The Hulu Series joined by a bamboo weaving process and Hana Wine Cabinet which exploring the material possibilities of North American maple.

“Zhongyu Zhang from MMR studio keenly captures the details of her life and her hometown of Inner Mongolia, where she grew up, and translates them into creative works with a systematic approach,” said judge Mario Tsai.
